7 Questions You Should Ask Before Breast Augmentation

If you’re considering breast augmentation in Colombia, you’re in the right place. Here are the seven crucial questions you should ask your plastic surgeon:

1. Where Will the Incision Be Placed?

We offer three main types of incisions for breast augmentation:

  • Axillary: Under the armpit, leaving no visible scar on the breast.
  • Periareolar: Around the edge of the areola, blending with the natural color transition.
  • Inframammary: Under the breast fold, where the scar is well-hidden.

For inframammary incisions, the cut is about 4 cm and we create the pocket for the implant under the breast tissue, avoiding any contact with it.

2. Where Will the Implant Be Placed?

Implants can be placed in two main planes:

  • Subglandular: Behind the breast tissue.
  • Dual Plane: The top part of the implant is covered by the pectoralis muscle, while the lower part is covered by breast tissue. This provides a natural look and feel.

3. What Type of Implants Will Be Used?

We use Motiva implants, which are cohesive gel or “gummy bear” implants. These nanotextured implants are highly preferred due to their safety and the fact that the silicone does not leak even if cut.

4. What Size of Implants Are Best for Me?

During your consultation, we measure your breast and chest to determine the best implant size. The size is chosen based on your breast tissue and the desired shape and size. We ensure the implants fit your body perfectly for natural and enhanced results.

5. How Will They Feel and Look After Surgery?

Immediately after surgery, your breasts may feel a bit hard and look top-heavy. As swelling decreases, they will settle into a natural look and feel, similar to normal breast tissue.

6. What Is the Recovery Process?

Recovery is straightforward. You need to:

  • Take care of yourself and listen to your body.
  • Wear a surgical bra for support.
  • Manage pain with prescribed painkillers.
  • Avoid heavy lifting for the first two months.

Many patients resume light activities within a week and can start cardio by week four.

7. What Is Long-Term Maintenance?

Implants are very safe and have been used for many years. Maintain your regular check-ups, including annual ultrasounds and monthly self-exams.
